Privately owned and not open to the public.
Dungeons dates from the 12th century, the castle from the 15th century with changes made during the 16th and 17th centuries.
The chapel dates from the 12th and has some frescoes from the 13th century.

Small village on the "Petite Creuse" river, 8 km west of Boussac. The
listed church dates from the 12th century and is named after St Martin de Tour. Close by in Champeix, there is a small chapel and remains of a roman
encampment (private site).

Architecturally interesting because of its simple Latin cross design. The bell tower typifies the meridional style. This style of tower is common in the south of the Creuse but rare in the North.
Inside you will find a statue of God the father made of limestone dating from the 15th century.

Built on an exceptional site, where there has been military activity since the Romans, the Chateau dates from the 12th, 13th and the beginning of the 15th century. It was reconstructed around 1400 by the Marechal Jean 1st de Brosse, a companion of Jeanne d'Arc.
You can visit a suite of rooms reflecting these periods, where there are huge fireplaces and original stone floors.
During the 18th Century the first and second floors of the castle were decorated with ancient wooden carvings, antique furniture and ancient tapestries.
George Sand stayed at the Chateau de Boussac. She based her first pastoral novel "Jeanne" in Boussac and the nearby Pierres Jaumatres and Toulx Sainte Croix.
It was in the Chateau de Boussac where the Tapestries of the "Dame à la Licorne" were discovered: the Chateau has, therefore, an important place in the history of the Tapestries. Today, the Tapestries are in the Musée de Cluny.
Abandoned for decades, restoration of the Chateau de Boussac has been ongoing since 1965..... there remains much to do.........
Furnished and occupied, the Chateau is open to the public throughout the year, each summer, exhibitions are organised to enhance your visit: the most famous artists in modern Tapestries have been exhibited in Boussac.

In the twenties, in order to provide drinking water for the area, it was decided to construct a new water tower; the building was constructed in concrete and steel by "La société auxilliaire d'entreprises électriques"and finished in 1935.The brick works was added afterwards
in "the Art Déco style" made by a local company "l'Entreprise Poulenat". The design(cylinder and trapeze) make it an unusual building.

In the beautiful landscape around the Pierres Jaumâtres, an ideal setting for horseback riding, the Cavaliers de Toulx association offers the use of its new 40m x 50m outdoor arena to all horseback riders. You may either come with your horse, or rent one for training, lessons in the arena or a ride in the countryside. The horses are provided for rent by the associations'partner, l'EARL Le Gourneix, horse livery and highland cattle breeding.
Denis and Cecile Glénard are particularily intent on providing custom service and are perfectly bilingual French/English.
